Horizontales
A salt of phthalic acid that has been used in many hair sprays and nail polishes for decades. Limited evidence of this being damaging to human health has made manufacturers avoid using this in their products.
A antioxidant-containing ingredient shown to have anti-aging effects on the skin, including an ability to soothe and improve the appearance of sun damage.
A naturally found component of skin tissue recreated synthetically to help restore, hydrate, and protect skin from environmental stressors. The ingredient agrees with almost all skin types.
The salt form of Hyaluronic Acid. This is considered more effective as a moisturizing ingredient because it can better absorb into the skin.
A lightweight, fragrance free plant oil that is incredibly effective at treating dry skin without the greasy residue of other plant oils like argan oil or coconut oils.
A substance derived from silica that produces a very silky, slippery texture to the skin. In some products made to smooth out the appearance of pores, this is effective. However, as an emollient, silicone can feel heavy and look shiny, so some may avoid this ingredient. Noncomedogenic. Common silicones: cyclopentasiloxane, cyclohexasiloxane, dimethicone and phenyl trimethicone.
A humectant naturally found in the skin that helps it maintain a soft, moisturized, healthy look. Used topically in combination with other emollients and antioxidants, it has been shown to be very effective at restoring the skin.

An Earth mineral used in natural sunscreen, as it protects from UVA/UVB radiation with no sensitivity. Also a thickening agent in foundations.
A substance used in skin care products to help skin hold onto moisture. (Think HUMID). Humectants can be natural or synthetic and include: Aloe, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, propylene glycol and silicone.
A very effective antioxidant that is actually more effective in its natural form, than its synthetic form. Great for dry skin types.
A colorless, odorless distillation byproduct of petroleum often found in moisturizer for its ability to soothe skin and allow it to hang on to moisture. Mineral oil can cause follicle congestion for some, but not other skin types. Baby Oil is Mineral Oil.
Preservatives that some believe have a high amount of estrogen, which can cause cancer in some women. These help prevent decomposition of raw, natural ingredients found in skin care products, and are largely safe when used sparingly. Many brands manufacture their products as paraben free to comply with consumer demand. Ibutylparaben, propylparaben, methylparaben, ethylparaben.
A n on irritating natural sunscreen ingredient used alongside titanium dioxide.
A group of surfactants that are used as detergents found in dish washing liquid, laundry soap, body washes, shampoos. skin washes, etc. These can cause sensitivity and dryness because they can over cleanse the skin, damaging the moisture barrier: Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, etc.
