Module 2 - part 1

Spring 2021

Horizontales
All Real Numbers
Process used where four terms are grouped into two sets of two binomials and the gcf is taken out of each group. A common binomial is usually found and factored out resulting in two binomials.
Value or values of x for which f(x) = 0 ( may be real or complex )
Two parallel lines OR when the variables vanish and a FALSE statement is formed.
The process used for trinomials for which the leading coefficient is not 1. The leading coefficent is multiplied to the constant and the factors of that product that adds up to the middle term replaces the middle term. Three terms become four and the factor by grouping method is used.
Used when the quadratic equation has the form ax^2 +bx +c
When the two lines coincide OR when the variables vanish and a TRUE statement is formed.
Process used to create a perfect square trinomial in order to use the square root property. Used for circles.
A binomial that factors into (a+b) (a^2- ab + b^2)
Best used when the quadratic equation has the form of perfect square equals a number.
Depends upon if the graph opens up or down and the vertex. Would be either negative infinity to the y coordinate of the vertex OR the y coordinate of the vertex to positive infinity.
Verticales
Binomial of the form a^2 - b^2 which factors into (a+b)(a-b)
The point of intersection of two lines OR when a value is found for a variable, so a value for the other variable can be found.
The highest or lowest point on the graph of a quadratic. Helps determine the range of the quadratic.
An imaginary vertical line that passes through the x coordinate of the vertex. The graph of the quadratic "folds over" this line.
