Geometry Unit 1

Horizontales
Perfectly flat and level. Represented by the x axis.
At a 90° angle. Have slopes that are negative reciprocals.
A transformation in which a plane figure turns around a fixed center point. To turn a shape a certain direction a certain amount.
Two distinct coplanar lines that do not intersect. Have the same slope.
A flat surface extending in all directions. A two-dimensional figure.
Lying in the same plane. For example, any set of three points in space are this.
Lying on the same line. Located similarly.
Two rays sharing a common endpoint. Typically measured in degrees or radians.
A transformation that is invariant with respect to distance. That is, the distance between any two points in the pre-image must be the same as the distance between the images of the two points.
The geometric figure formed by two points. The straight path connecting two points and extending beyond the points in both directions.
Verticales
Operations that alter the form of a figure. The standard transformations are translations, reflections, dilations (stretches), compressions (contractions or shrinks), and rotations.
Any prescribed way of assigning to each object in one set a particular object in another set. For example, “multiply by two”.
A transformation in which a graph or geometric figure is picked up and moved to another location without any change in size or orientation. Can also be interpreted as the addition of a constant vector to every point, or as shifting the origin of the coordinate system.
The original figure prior to a transformation. Can change after a dilation, reflection, reflection, or translation.
A transformation in which a geometric figure is reflected across a line. Creates a mirror image.
A line segment, line, or plane that divides a geometric figure into two congruent halves. Splits shape evenly.
Straight up and down. Represented with the y axis.
Exactly equal in size and shape. Sides or segments have the exact same length.
The geometric figure formed at the intersection of two distinct lines. A direct placement.
The locus of all points that are a fixed distance from a given point. A shape consisting of all points in a plane that are a given distance from a given point, the center.
