Types of Valves

Horizontales
Liquids that contain large amounts of suspended solids.
A device located at the bottom of a tank for flushing water closets and similar fix-tures.
A material that seals the valve stem and prevents fluids from leaking up through it.
A type of valve construction in which a union nut connects the bonnet to the valve body; best suited for applications requir-ing frequent disassembly of the valve.
A type of end connection for valves. The smooth ends are soldered to copper and brass pipes that have no internal or exter-nal threads.
A valve with flow characteristics similar to a globe valve, with a valve body that allows it to be used in a 90-degree elbow con-figuration.
A valve that re-duces water pressure in a building.
A valve that provides both on-off and throttling control by raising and lowering a cylindrical or cone-shaped plug into the flow. Widely used in sanitary plumbing systems.
A valve end connection that has the threads on the outside.
A chamber within a safety valve that harnesses the expansion forc-es of air or steam to quickly open (pop) or close the valve.
A valve that allows one-way fluid flow in water supply or drainage lines by using an internal ball and seat.
A valve cover that guides and encloses the stem. It is used for larger valves or for high-pressure applications.
A type of stem in which nei-ther the handwheel nor the stem rises when the valve is opened. It is suitable for areas where space is limited.
A valve end connection that has the threads inside.
Verticales
A valve installed in water closet f ush tanks to maintain a constant water level in the tank.
A t y p e o f gate valve used on lines that require a more positive closure—for example, low-pressure and cold water lines. It is also used on lines containing volatile fluids.
The parts of a valve that receive the most wear and tear: the stem, disc, seat ring, disc holder, wedge, and bushings.
A condition caused when gate valves open only part way, causing the disc, or gate, to vibrate, which erodes the disc edge.
The difference between the open-ing and closing pressures in a steam safety valve.
A valve cover that guides and encloses the stem.
