The Digestive System

Horizontales
Makes digestive enzymes and releases them into the small intestine. Releases insulin to reduce high blood sugar and glucagon to increase blood sugar
Bile from the liver is stored here and released into the small intestine where it turns fat into tiny droplets.
Absorbs water from digested food
Processes nutrients and produces bile which breaks down fat.
Digestion begins here. Teeth cut and crush food. Chemical digestion begins here as saliva breaks down starch by the function of “salivary amylase”
Stores and churns food with enzymes (substances that create chemical reactions) and acids (digestive juices). This mix of enzymes and digestive juices breaks down food so it can pass to your small intestine
Verticales
Most food is digested here. Nutrients are released and taken into the blood for the body to use.
The opening at the end of the digestive tract
Muscular tube that transports food from the mouth to the stomach
The final part of the large intestine. Feces is stored here before leaving the body through the anus.
